Goals

Improve the health and access to basic medical care of the tribal communities in the area by identifying and training rural health promoters.

Train Katkari youth about their rights and those of their families, and empower them to claim them.

Beneficiaries

Direct beneficiaries: 2,800 people, mainly tribal young people and women

Protagonists

Overview

The main Adivasi community in the area, the Katkari, are essentially landless and mostly illiterate migrant workers. With unstable and reduced income they cannot afford medical expenses, which are usually the main reason for extraordinary expenses. Not being able to access bank loans, they are forced to go to lenders, creating a situation of dependency that is difficult to break.

With the identification and training of 20 women leaders as health promoters, it will be possible to ensure basic first aid care in each village, as well as referral and follow-up of the most serious cases. The prevention and basic treatment of recurring diseases will also be strengthened by holding health talks in each of the villages.

On the other hand, there is a need to create awareness among the tribal youth about the laws related to their lives and empower them for families to avail government subsidies, subsidized food grains and health services. Approximately 250 tribal youth will be trained for this.
